History / Company Overview
Merrick Hardwoods is a vertically integrated forest products company and one of the largest manufacturers of Appalachian lumber and hardwood flooring in the United States.
Merrick Hardwoods employs a full time forestry staff that puts together 100-year plans for the forest we own.
Best Management Practices
Merrick Hardwoods has been a green company before being “green” became popular. We consistently exceed forestry Best Management Practices (BMPs) to conserve our critical natural resources because we know it is the right thing to do…for the future of our company, our employees, and our children. Protecting our natural resources is essential to our future—in more ways that one—it is our priority and it is reflected in the way we run our companies.
For many years, Merrick Hardwoods has had our own foresters on staff. They put together 100-year plans for the forest we own. We are one of only a few major vertically integrated forest products companies to own and manage our own timberland and to employ a full time forestry staff. Again, it’s the right thing to do.
“Waste Not” Philosophy
Our company is committed to a “Waste Not” philosophy that means that no part of the trees we use goes to waste. From our managed saw mill to the manufacturing of lumber products and hardwood flooring, to the use of sawdust to power our facilities—and the excess saw dust and wood fibers used to produce economical wood pellet bio fuel in our state-of-the-art pellet manufacturing facility. We use our resources as efficiently and effectively as possible, while giving back to insure that our timberlands are healthy and thriving to meet the needs of future generations.
